Mozeliak "very optimistic" about Molina return
The St. Louis Cardinals may have their starting catcher back as early as next week.
Cards GM John Mozeliak just said on @FSMidwest pre-game that he's "very optimistic" Yadier Molina will be activated when eligible (Aug. 15).— Ryan Boyer (@RyanPBoyer) August 8, 2013
The five-time All-Star has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 31 with a sprained right knee.
Molina was hitting .330/.374./.479 in 98 games before suffering the injury.
The 31-year old backstop is a five-time Gold Glove winner and two-time World Series champion (2006 and 2011).
The Cardinals have lost two games in a row and trail the Pittsburgh Pirates by four games in the National League Central division.
St. Louis currently occupies the first N.L. wildcard spot. The Cincinnati Reds are in the second wildcard position, just three games behind.
