2015 recruit complains about hot, fake Twitter followers
Yesterday, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops suggested fans should take to Twitter to encourage recruits to commit to the Sooners.
Now, a 2015 recruit from Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, who's already received offers from LSU and Georgia has taken to his own Twitter account to complain about all the fake accounts tweeting at him.
Offensive tackle George Brown goes by the handle @MADDAWG_G on Twitter and he's recently noticed a trend of accounts with University of Kentucky-related handles and photos of attractive females as profile pictures sending him messages and, essentially, begging him to commit to the Wildcats.
Some of these uk fake girl accounts are getting out of hand lol— ★☆MAD☆DAWG☆G★ (@MADDAWG_G) July 25, 2013
Here's a sample of the tweets Brown has seen in his @ mentions in recent days:
Come to Kentucky @MADDAWG_G— CARIE (@carie__KY) July 25, 2013
PICK UK @MADDAWG_G— Von Sal (@sal_von) July 25, 2013
Come to UK @MADDAWG_G— Lauren Lyle (@Lyle_UK_) July 25, 2013
It's difficult to ascertain with any certainty whether these accounts truly are fake, but the evidence doesn't look good. Invariably, they have few followers and don't appear to post anything other than tweets aimed at potential UK recruits. They all seem to tweet at the same time of day, too, suggesting one enterprising individual is behind this virtual army of hot, fake women.
It's within the realm of possibility that this tactic could work on some recruits, but UK fans will have to get more sophisticated if they hope to woo Brown to their school via social media.
