Report: NHL players to play in Sochi Olympics
The NHL and the IOC have been holding meetings for a while now, trying to work out a deal to get NHL players to participate in the Olympics. Now, it seems, that the deal is almost done and that an announcement will come very shortly.
My guess: The final, official, thumbs up for NHL participation at Sochi will come very shortly. Sources tell me it's done.— Paul Romanuk (@paul_romanuk) July 16, 2013
The 2014 Winter Olympics will run from February 7th, 2014 to February 23rd and will likely put the NHL season on hold for the duration. The 2010 Gold Medal game between Canada and the United States was watched by an estimated 22 million Canadians, making it the most-watched television broadcast in Canadian History. It was also the most-watched hockey game in the United States in 30 years.
