Abou Diaby suffers calf injury during Marseille training

The curse of Abou Diaby continues after the midfielder fell to yet another injury following Marseille training last Friday.

Manager Michel confirmed the news at a press conference on Wednesday, and the calf issue means the 29-year-old still hasn't played for the South Coast outfit since his move last summer.

Diaby's career has been plagued by injuries, with estimates predicting over four years in the treatment room during his spells with Marseille and previous sides Auxerre and Arsenal. It was his nine-year stay with the latter that was particularly hit, especially when he looked a natural heir in defensive midfield to club great Patrick Vieira.

The Parisian did make a comeback of sorts as an unused substitute in matches against Trelissac in the Coupe de France and Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 over Febru, but is now set for another stint on the sidelines with no estimate for his return. He now has just 83 minutes of competitive action in 1,083 days.

Marseille travels to fifth-tier US Granville in the Coupe de France quarterfinals on Friday.
