Marseille manager Jose Miguel del Campo - known as Michel - admitted Monday he did not actually want Florian Thauvin back at the club after the French winger returned from Newcastle on loan.

Thauvin joined Newcastle out of Marseille in the summer transfer window of 2015, but failed to establish himself in the Premier League and, as such, returned back to his old club. But, Michel says, Thauvin is not the kind of player he wanted in the January window.

"I asked for a different player," Michel told reporters. "I asked for a striker to make up for the problems in our team. I got Florian Thauvin who's indeed a very good player but it's not the player that I asked for ... But every good player is welcome, of course."

Michel will hope, at the very least, that Thauvin can find his feet once more at the Stade Velodrome, where he scored 15 goals and recorded 14 assists in 79 total appearances with Les Olympiens between 2013 and 2015.
