Report: West Ham rejects Marseille's 2nd Payet bid; worth just £1M more

West Ham likely didn't waste any time rejecting Marseille's second attempt to sign wantaway midfielder Dimitri Payet.

After reportedly turning down the French side's first offer last week, Sky Sports understands that West Ham has dismissed a second bid worth £20 million - just £1 million more than Marseille's initial attempt to reunite with Payet following his request to leave the Hammers.

It's believed that Marseille's latest offer was made Monday as club president Jacques-Henri Eyraud met with West Ham officials in London to discuss details of a transfer.

However, it appears Marseille was unwilling to meet West Ham's valuation and, instead, was apparently only willing to increase its initial £19.1-million bid by a minimal amount.

Sky Sports adds that co-chairman David Sullivan, who rejected the latest approach, is unwilling to be "bullied" into selling Payet at a price that does not meet the club's £30-million rating.

Payet was left off manager Slaven Bilic's squad list ahead of West Ham's victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday. He has since been told to train with the club's Under-23 side.

West Ham officials have been steadfast in their stance that Payet will remain with the club, reportedly insisting he apologise to his teammates and supporters before resuming his career at the club.

Yet, the team's stance of late suggests his days in a West Ham shirt are numbered after vice-chairman Karren Brady, in her column on The Sun, accused Payet of boycotting Saturday's match and being on "half-throttle" this season.

Payet was one of the breakout stars during his debut season in England last year following his reported £10.7-million transfer from Marseille, where he spent two seasons.

But this season has been a different story as the French international has struggled to replicate the form that saw him finish among the finalists for 2016 PFA Players' Player of the Year Award.
