Tottenham Hotspur has apparently rekindled its interest in Georges-Kevin Nkoudou after Marseille's recent boardroom changes halted progress in negotiations.
Giovanni Ciccolunghi was installed as new club president and sporting director Gunter Jacob arrived from Gent, but Sky Sports reports that Spurs are now back in negotiations over acquiring Nkoudou, with castoff Clinton N'Jie potentially moving the other way.
Some Sky sources suggest that deal is close to completion for the 21-year-old who was a rare bright spot during Marseille's bleak 13th-placed finish in 2015-16. He made 22 Ligue 1 starts, scoring five and setting up three, and habitually showed phenomenal footwork on his ventures down the flanks.
Nkoudou only joined Marseille from Nantes last summer for a bargain £1 million, and various earlier reports suggested Tottenham would part with £10.8 million for the youngster. The North London outfit's pursuit was stepped up when it decided Nkoudou was a better option than Lille OSC's creative midfielder Sofiane Boufal.
In N'Jie, Marseille would have a ready-made replacement experienced in French football. The Cameroonian switched to Spurs from Olympique Lyonnais in 2015, but has endured 12 months hampered by a knee injury and a lack of first-team opportunities. He played just 185 Premier League minutes over the course of the campaign.
Tottenham began its season with a 1-1 draw at Everton, and continues its Premier League commitments with a visit from Crystal Palace on Saturday.
