5 big names who could be on the move this summer

The summer transfer window is wide open, meaning there's anarchy in Europe as clubs throw around money and try to sign players before it's too late.

In the upper echelon of European football, the rumour mill is seemingly moving faster than ever. No player, no matter how loyal or expensive, appears to be safe from the gossip that infects the beautiful game, giving supporters of the biggest clubs in Europe false optimism ahead of the upcoming season.

That being said, there are some players who legitimately look set for a transfer, and who will likely be sold for the type of money most people won't see in their lifetime.

Here are five of those players:

Riyad Mahrez

Whether Riyad Mahrez will be around to defend Leicester City's Premier League crown remains to be seen.

Mahrez, the reigning PFA Player of the Year, is the subject of conflicting reports - some of which say Leicester is confident he'll stay with the Foxes, and some of which claim he is instructing his representatives to find him a new club. Only time will tell whether the Algerian attacking midfielder stays at King Power Stadium, but, should he go, it will reportedly be for more than £45 million.

Gonzalo Higuain

Following a season in which Gonzalo Higuain tallied 36 goals through 35 Serie A appearances, Napoli slapped a €94-million price tag on the Argentinian forward.

So far, the cost is working wonders for Napoli, scaring away those who remain confident in Higuain's abilities despite Argentina's failure at the Copa America Centenario. Even Giuseppe Marotta, Juventus' CEO, admitted the Old Lady won't be pursuing the 28-year-old.

But of course, in the world of football, nothing is guaranteed when it comes to the summer transfer window.

Paul Pogba

Manchester United is reportedly set to make a £100-million bid for Paul Pogba, £13 million of which will be comprised of performance-related add-ons. But the Old Lady is apparently likely to reject the offer, wanting £100 million without add-ons included.

Pogba's future is always clouded by uncertainty during the transfer window, and Real Madrid is allegedly the only other club the French midfielder could join.

Should United and Juventus fail to agree on a price, it will be fascinating to see where he ends up.

Mario Gotze

It's been a long time since Mario Gotze scored the goal that won Germany its fourth World Cup trophy, and things aren't exactly going as planned for the German hero at Bayern Munich.

On the fringes of Bayern's squad last season, he could return to Borussia Dortmund, as the two clubs are talking about sending the player back to the Westfalenstadion.

Will Carlo Ancelotti's arrival at the Allianz Arena have any bearing on Gotze's future?

Arda Turan

Arda Turan spent his first season at Barcelona unable to play for half of it and as a pawn in the Blaugrana's presidential election.

While it would be understandable for Turan to be debating whether he has a future at the Camp Nou, his agent, Ahmet Bulut, insists that the rumours about his client leaving Barcelona are "false."

Barcelona is apparently willing to sell Turan, even for two-thirds of the €40 million that the Blaugrana paid to sign the Turkish midfielder, and Arsenal, Chelsea, Juventus, and Dortmund are reportedly among the clubs monitoring the 29-year-old's situation.
