Zlatan the hero as PSG wins joint-record 10th Coupe de France

Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his final match in a Paris Saint-Germain strip by playing the hero for the umpteenth time, scoring the winner minutes after the interval to hand the holders a 4-2 victory over Marseille in the Coupe de France final Saturday.

The win gives PSG 10 Coupe titles, joining Marseille as joint-record holders courtesy of the angular Swede's goal from the spot, Blaise Matuidi's opener in the second minute, and a calm finish by Edinson Cavani. Ibrahimovic completed his brace eight minutes from time.

Matuidi gifted the holders an early lead, only for Newcastle cast-off Florian Thauvin to level 10 minutes later thanks to a shot from distance that took a slight deflection before besting Salvatore Sirigu.

Marseille was lucky to escape a handball call on the goal-scorer Thauvin on Ibrahimovic's close-range effort with 15 minutes to play in the opening stanza.

If the Swedish international's goal set the table, his pass to a streaking Cavani 10 minutes later cemented the result.

Last year's Coupe hero Cavani put the match out of reach in the 57th minute, when Ibrahimovic played the Uruguayan through for his 25th goal in all competitions this season. As he is wont to do, Ibrahimovic scored a second in the final 10 minutes to secure a result that was hardly in question.

It was his 50th goal of the season. Allow that to sink in for a moment.

Belgian star Michy Batshuayi straddled the offside line to score Marseille's second five minutes from time. Too little, too late for the Cote d'Azur side.

Saturday was Marseille's 19th appearance in the domestic cup finale, pairing the 10 wins with a record nine defeats.

With PSG's victory, Saint-Etienne has booked a Europa League spot by virtue of finishing sixth in Ligue 1.

Wherever Ibrahimovic's career takes him next, he leaves the French capital as the most decorated player in club history, with the three-time Player of the Year winning four Ligue 1 titles on the bounce coupled with two Coupe de France trophies and three Coupe de la Ligue wins.

Ibrahimovic was subbed off for the final time in the 89th minute.

Bon voyage, Zlatan.
