Marseille ends winless run to guarantee Ligue 1 survival
Marseille stopped the bleeding Sunday with a 1-0 win against Angers, the club's first Ligue 1 victory in 12 matches.
In-demand striker Michy Batshuayi scored the game's only goal, running onto a perfect ball from Steven Fletcher before scoring past goalkeeper Alexandre Letellier from a tight angle.
There is now no chance of the former European Cup champion being relegated. Hanging precariously close to the drop zone, Marseille invoked the wrath of its fans in recent months.
Assistant coach Franck Passi replaced Spanish manager Michel on the bench as a result of the winless skid, while owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus announced she would put the struggling Ligue 1 outfit up for sale.
Currently in 14th place, Marseille cannot finish lower than 16th.
