Floyd Mayweather says he will retire in 2015

Undefeated welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather plans to retire from boxing after concluding his six-fight Showtime/CBS contract (worth over $200 million), ESPN's Dan Rafael reports. 

Mayweather is currently three fights into the deal, with the fourth fight coming this Saturday at the MGM Grand. He'll defend his welterweight title in a rematch with former titleholder Marcos Maidana, who he beat in a majority decision in his last fight on May 3. 

Per Rafael, Mayweather plans to close out the contract and his career with fights in May and September of 2015, and afterwards remain involved in boxing as a promoter: 

I only got two more fights left [after Saturday] and after the next two fights I just want to build the Mayweather Promotions brand. [...]

My next fight is in May and my last fight is in September, so a year from now will be my last fight. [...]

I'll still work with my stable of fighters, still build the Mayweather Promotions brand. We have young fighters that we work with.

Mayweather, who will turn 38 in February, has a career record of 46-0 (26 KOs), and is a quintuple champion, holding world titles in the super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight, and super welterweight classes. He's widely considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

With only three fights ostensibly standing between Mayweather and a second career as a full-time promoter, there are still whispers that at least one of them will be the long-prayed-for and continually thwarted bout with eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
