Aviles Hurtado, creator of goal-of-the-year contender after goal-of-the-year contender in Liga MX, would prefer to pull on a yellow shirt than a green shirt.

Hurtado expressed his desire to play for Colombia over Mexico to ESPN, but admitted he would analyse things if he were called up to El Tri. The 29-year-old forward joined Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente from Jaguares de Chiapas in 2016, and boasts six goals and four assists in 11 Liga MX appearances this season. He is eligible to play for either country.

"(A call from El Tri) would make me proud for everything that Mexico has given me," Hurtado said, as translated by ESPN FC's Tom Marshall. "But I've always said that my dream is to wear the Colombia shirt; it's always been dear to me. If the possibility (to play for Mexico) comes up, I'll analyse the situation in order to take the best decision."

Hurtado was born in Colombia but will be eligible to play for Mexico beginning in December 2017. The Latin American attacker made the move to Liga MX in December 2012 when he joined Club Pachuca. Article 17 of FIFA's eligibility to play for representative teams stipulates a player is eligible to play for a new representative team once "he has lived continuously for at least five years after reaching the age of 18 on the territory of the relevant Association."

In other words, Hurtado would be eligible to play for Mexico at the 2018 World Cup.

Hurtado is enjoying a phenomenal season at Xolos, scoring goals that may be nominated for the Puskas Award and have made headlines outside of Mexico. On Saturday, he channelled his inner Hugo Sanchez to score via an overhead kick in a 3-3 draw at Atlas.
