Tigres confirms interest in Hoffenheim's Vargas

With just five days remaining, Tigres UANL will attempt to sign Eduardo Vargas from Hoffenheim before the winter transfer window closes.

On Thursday, the club's sporting director, Miguel Angel Garza, confirmed Vargas is an option after Wednesday reports linked the 27-year-old with a move to the reigning LIGA MX champion.

"Vargas is one of the alternatives for Tigres," Garza told the reporters, as translated by ESPNFC's Tom Marshall. "Now we have to take into consideration the question of timing so he can come to Tigres."

The Mexican side is believed to have submitted a bid worth $6 million (€5.6 million) for Vargas, but Garza admitted Tigres would first have to ensure there's room on the squad to accommodate the Chile international.

"Step one is for the situation with one of our players to become clear so that another can come in," Garza said, with Marshall reporting that forward Andy Delort could be sold after failing to impress since joining Tigres last summer.

Vargas has struggled this season, only making five Bundesliga starts while Andrej Kramaric has been given the majority of playing time in Hoffenheim's attack.
