Rudi Voller: Chicharito knows he needs to step up his game

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is normally a clinical scorer, always in the right place at the right time. But the Mexican striker is experiencing a Chihuahuan Desert-esque drought at Bayer Leverkusen, last scoring on Oct. 1 and without a goal in 15 appearances.

Nonetheless, Rudi Voller isn't worried.

In conversation with Bild, Voller, who is Leverkusen's sporting director, said Hernandez knows better than anyone that something's wrong and claimed a "different Chicharito" will be seen in the future.

"Chicharito now needs to show more," Voller said, according to ESPN FC's Stephan Uersfeld. "He knows best that he needs to step up his game."

Voller also expressed his belief that Hernandez is worried about his girlfriend's health, saying: "It was a burden on him that his girlfriend wasn't feeling too well, but we'll definitely see a different Chicharito again."

Hernandez's drought isn't confined to Leverkusen. The 28-year-old last scored for Mexico in El Tri's 2-1 victory over Jamaica at the Copa America Centenario.
