Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart will take the captain's armband for England in Friday's friendly with Spain, according to Daniel Taylor of the Guardian.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper is the most experienced member of Roy Hodgson's squad in the absence of first-choice skipper Wayne Rooney, who'll be benched.

The former Shrewsbury Town youngster has captained City in the past, but his 56th international cap will mark the first time he's captained his country.

Friday's trip to Alicante precedes another friendly on Tuesday, when nearby rival France visits Wembley.
