Prior to kickoff, the Italian icon was presented with an award to commemorate the occasion, which further cemented his status as one of Italian football's greatest-ever players, and which comes 18 years after he made his international debut as a 19-year-old.

Among the first to congratulate Buffon was Alessandro Del Piero, with whom the shot-stopper won the 2006 World Cup and took the pitch alongside at Juventus until 2012.
Following Juventus' defeat to Barcelona in this year's Champions League final, Buffon expressed his desire to continue playing for as long as he can, saying: "I want three more years at this level to reach a few more dreams."
