UEFA deems commercial aspect of Scotland's Euro 2020 bid 'inadequate'

Taking an obvious backseat to Scotland's independence referendum is the country's bid to host matches at Euro 2020, which will be held in 13 nations.

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has bid to host three group-stage fixtures and one elimination-stage game at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Although the stadium successfully hosted track and field and the closing ceremony for this year's Commonwealth Games, UEFA has described the commercial aspect of Scotland's Euro 2020 bid as "inadequate," criticizing the lack of clarity.

In response to UEFA's report, the SFA has vowed to fulfill the commercial requirement "in its entirety." But one thing that the SFA has little control over is the result of Scotland's independence referendum, which holds the potential to have the country's bid "re-assessed" should Scotland vote for independence.

The report stated: "Scotland being part of the UK, the legal situation is mostly - but not entirely - identical to that of England and Wales."
