Sergio Aguero poised to become Manchester City's goal standard

Already a club legend for a last-ditch finish against Queens Park Rangers that won Manchester City the Premier League title in 2011-12, Argentine forward Sergio Aguero is on track to become the club's all-time leading goal-scorer.

Despite sitting 11th on City's all-time scoring list, the pint-sized Argentine could overtake more than half of those ahead of him by the end of next season, his health permitting.

Rank Name Years Goals
1 Eric Brook (ENG) 1927-1940 177
2 Tommy Johnson (ENG) 1920-1930 166
3 Colin Bell (ENG) 1966-1979 153
4 Joe Hayes (ENG) 1953-1965 152
5 Billy Meredith (WAL) 1894-1924 152
6 Francis Lee (ENG) 1967-1974 148
7 Tommy Browell (ENG) 1913-1926 139
8 Billie Gillespie (SCO) 1897-1905 132
9 Fred Tilson (ENG) 1928-1938 132
10 Frank Roberts (ENG) 1922-1929 130
11 Sergio Aguero (ARG) 2011- 128

Aguero, 27, joined the Citizens from Atletico Madrid before the 2011-12 season and immediately acclimated himself to the English top flight, scoring twice on his debut with an assist after coming on as a sub in the 59th minute against Swansea City.

"It would be a major achievement if I can enter the top ten," Aguero told the club's website Tuesday. "But I'd rather focus on my next goal rather than the ones I've scored so far and the ones I might score in the future."

Year Apps. (All Comps.) Goals
2011-12 48 30
2012-13 40 17
2013-14 34 28
2014-15 42 34
2015-16 27 19
TOTAL 191 128

Based on these numbers, Aguero scores a goal every 1.49 matches he plays. At that rate, he would pass Erik Brook's club record of 177 in 74.5 matches -hypothetically before the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

"Breaking a record would (be) very nice for sure - they are meant to be broken in the first place. But if I do it, I hope it doesn't last for many years, because that would mean that the club can keep growing thanks to the efforts of other prolific players."
