Lambert 'delighted' when sacked by Aston Villa
Paul Lambert has admitted he was "delighted" when shown the exit door at Aston Villa following three tough years in the Midlands.
The Glaswegian was finally given the sack by the club's board after a 2-0 loss to Hull City in February 2015, but things have not improved since, with the club currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
"The lads at Villa at that time gave us everything, there was never one time where I walked away and thought we had thrown the towel in," Lambert told Sky Sports' "Soccer Saturday." "We just found things hard towards the end. As I've said before, Villa is a great club, always has been and always will be, but I knew my time was up.
"Some of the things that were going on were never right so when it (the sacking) did actually happen, I was delighted it was going to happen."
Lambert returned to work at Blackburn Rovers in November 2015, and after shadowing the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, and Carlo Ancelotti during his time off, the Scot looks to take those lessons to Ewood Park. Things haven't been smooth on the banks of the River Darwen for some time, though.
"Blackburn is a club that has lost its way, due to the (transfer) embargo and things like that," he said. "But that has been lifted, which is a massive step for this club going forward."
It may be some years off, but Lambert would like to return to the top flight with the Championship's Rovers in the future. His team welcomes West Ham United on Sunday in the FA Cup fifth round.
