Danny Welbeck could return for FA Cup clash with Hull

To the delight of Arsenal supporters, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said Danny Welbeck could return to first-team football for next weekend's FA Cup match against Hull.

Sixty minutes for the Under-21 side last week was enough to convince Wenger, who noted the pacey attacker is fit to return after being sidelined since April with a serious knee injury.

"He is now back to full power in training. It is a big possibility (he could be involved against Hull next week,)" Wenger told the club's website.

Next Saturday's match at the Emirates against Hull will be the third time the clubs have played in the cup in consecutive years, besting Steve Bruce's side in last year's third round after defeating them in the final the year prior.

"We gave him one or two days' recovery after the U21 game, but now he is back in full training. He has worked very hard and he is fit."

Following an injury-riddled first half of the campaign for Arsenal, Welbeck's return is one of several first-team players to approach match fitness for the crucial Premier League run-in and FA Cup and Champions League ties.

Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta recently returned from injury to bolster an often underwhelming deep-lying central midfield, and Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere have returned to training with March returns likely.

Squad depth could prove key for Arsenal's title ambitions. The north London side, who trail Leicester City by five points with 13 matches left, host the Foxes Sunday, with Arsenal set to play four fixtures over three competitions in the same span that it's title rivals play twice.
