Jamie Vardy inks new contract with Leicester City until 2019

From a factory in Sheffield to the Premier League's top scorer, the madness of Jamie Vardy's rags-to-riches tale knows no bounds.

Following Leicester City's phenomenal 3-1 victory at Manchester City on Saturday, Vardy put pen to paper on a new contract with the Foxes, committing his future to the club until 2019.

Vardy joined Leicester from Fleetwood Town in 2012, when his name was next to unknown and the Cod Army was a non-league club. The transfer followed seven years with Stocksbridge Park Steels, which was then in the eighth tier of English football. He once skipped a training session with the club because he was so nervous about promotion from the reserves to the first team.

The rise has been, simply put, meteoric.

Vardy is the Premier League's top scorer, with 18 goals to his name. In November, he became the first man to score in 11 successive Premier League fixtures.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be fighting to achieve something special with this Club, as part of this squad," Vardy said. "I've never known a spirit like it - from the owners, to the manager and his staff, the players and the fans. I want to be part of it for a long time.

"Leicester City have shown nothing but total faith in me since the day I arrived here three-and-a-half years ago and it's impossible to measure how much that belief has helped me to improve. I'll forever be grateful for the investment the Club has made in me and I'll spend every day working to repay it."

In large part because of Vardy's ascension, Leicester escaped what, at one point last season, looked like certain relegation. The Foxes will enter their match against Arsenal on Valentine's Day at the top of the standings with 53 points.
