Steve McClaren: Newcastle's performance at Goodison Park 'unacceptable'

Newcastle United's show at Everton didn't reflect the club's splurge in the January transfer window, and Steve McClaren is furious.

Speaking after a spiritless Newcastle suffered a 3-0 beating at Goodison Park on Wednesday and remained in the Premier League's relegation zone, McClaren didn't hesitate to rip apart the Tyne-Wear club's display, saying that his side wasted a fixture after arriving at the stadium with the intention of getting a result.

"The attitude has been a different class the last couple of months," McClaren said, according to the Guardian. "We had bad results against Leicester (City) and Crystal Palace (in November) where that (attitude) was questioned but since then it has been excellent. I felt it was disappointing we returned to that level and that is unacceptable."

Included in Newcastle's starting XI were Andros Townsend and Jonjo Shelvey, who each cost a reported £12 million, and Henri Saivet.
