Manchester City boss Pellegrini says Sergio Aguero is 'impossible to replace'

There are important players at the Etihad Stadium, and then there's Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero.

The Argentine striker is the marquee man in Manchester City's attacking core, so much so that club manager Manuel Pellegrini says finding someone to take his place in the event of another injury spell isn't so easy.

"It's impossible to replace Sergio," Pellegrini told reporters. "He's a top player and it's very difficult to replace him. I think for every team to replace their top players is very difficult.

"We can play without Sergio, but of course we'll be a stronger team with him playing at his best performance level. He's not a player you can replace so easily. But I hope he will finish the season without any more injuries."

Aguero, who led the league last season with 26 goals, has 10 to his name in the 2015-16 campaign in just 15 appearances. Manchester City is currently fighting for a top spot in the Premier League, sitting third in the league but only one point behind Leicester City and first-place Arsenal.

Pellegrini admits he'll need Aguero down the stretch of the season but, should the Argentine find himself sidelined, the gaffer has also called on the rest of his strike force to step up when needed.

"If, for different reasons, he cannot play, we must have Kelechi Iheanacho or Wilfried Bony in a high performance level, because it's the only way to win titles.

"It's impossible for a player to play all the games."
