Report: Colorado Rapids attempting to acquire Tim Howard
The Colorado Rapids are reportedly pursuing a move for the 'keeper who set a record at last year's World Cup by making 16 saves in a single match.
After their effort to sign Alejandro Bedoya fell short, the Rapids are attempting to acquire Everton's Tim Howard, sources tell Jeff Carlisle of ESPN FC.
Carlisle's report is bolstered by the fact the Rapids, by virtue of a trade with the Chicago Fire on Thursday, acquired the No. 1 spot in Major League Soccer's Allocation Rankings. The system is used to allocate players from the United States Men's National Team, elite U.S. Youth National Team players, and players transferred outside of MLS who garner a transfer fee of at least $50,000.
Howard, 36, has made over 400 appearances for Everton and is contracted with the club until 2018. However, his form this season has resulted in calls for Joel Robles to take over between the posts at Goodison Park, a situation that reached its boiling point when the Toffees suffered a 4-3 defeat at home to Stoke City.
