With a contract that expires at season's end, Manchester City centre-back Martin Demichelis has declined to commit his future to Manuel Pellegrini's side, deciding instead to wait until the summer to decide.

With the emergence of summer signing Nicolas Otamendi paired with performances from captain Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala, Demichelis has become fourth-choice for the Premier League table-toppers.

The 34-year-old Argentine international joined City in 2013 from Atletico Madrid for a relatively meager fee of £3.5 million and has made 14 appearances for the club this season in all competitions.

"Next month I turn 35 so I have been in this business for quite a long time," Demichelis told the Daily Mail's Chris Wheeler. "I have learned a lot in the past and what I have learned is that you need to live in the present, and enjoy your football."

"I am really enjoying my time here at City, playing with big players and for a club that is so ambitious, with such big objectives."

Demichelis played all 90 minutes in City's 3-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday alongside Otamendi, though his future is shrouded in mystery based on quotes from the 49-time capped international.

"We still have six or seven months of competition and then at the end of the season we will see what's best for me and what's best for the team. For the moment I am enjoying my football and am really proud to be part of this."
