Fans petition for Jamie Vardy to get his own crisp flavour

Former non-league footballer Jamie Vardy's goals have propelled Leicester City to the summit of the Premier League, with the forward equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in 10 consecutive matches since the top division was rebranded in 1992.

The ex-Stocksbridge Park Steels man has been rightly rewarded with a regular role in Roy Hodgson's England squad, and has drawn plaudits from all corners of the globe.

However, the greatest honour available to an English player still eludes the 28-year-old: having a flavour of Walker's Crisps named after him. It's particularly galling as the popular British snack calls the city of Leicester home.

A change.org petition put together by Irish bookmaker Paddy Power quips that Vardy is "worth a packet" after his fine form - not just in the monetary sense, but when it comes to a distinction only bestowed on Gary Lineker and Michael Owen before him.

The petition has amassed more than 450 virtual signatures in two days.

David Beckham reportedly fought off an attempt by an unnamed brand to use the flavour name "Smokey Beckham" shortly after the "Cheese and Owen" flavour's success.

Paddy Power's suggestion of "Vardy's WKD Salami" may need a little bit of work, though.
