Leicester's Jamie Vardy fit to set new record against Manchester United

Free-scoring forward Jamie Vardy is fit for the visit of Manchester United on Saturday, table-topping Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri told reporters Thursday.

The Sheffield native matched the previous record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League games at Newcastle last week, and will have the opportunity to surpass Ruud van Nistelrooy's 2003 run against the Dutchman's former club.

Ranieri revealed that Vardy, who plied his trade in non-league football just three-and-a-half years ago, undergoes a slightly different fitness regime than the rest of his teammates.

"He's fit of course. We manage him in a different way. He's also under the hands of our physio," the Italian said. "We speak every morning about what the best training session is for him, but he is fit. Everybody else is okay."

Ranieri has no questions about the 28-year-old's mentality ahead of the matchup against the league's toughest defence.

"I think his mind is 100 percent. He's always fit, always. Always 100 percent."

If Vardy manages to score this weekend, his eyes will be then on a much older record: Jimmy Dunne scored in 12 successive top flight games for Sheffield United in 1930-31.
