Bruce Grobbelaar thinks Jurgen Klopp wants to replace Simon Mignolet

If there's one human being who can rightfully criticise the goalkeeping situation at Liverpool, it's Bruce Grobbelaar.

During a 13-year stint at Anfield, Grobelaar, a Zimbabwean who played his way into Liverpudlian hearts, made 628 appearances for Liverpool and was a massive part of the Reds' success in the 1980s, using his reflexes to help the Merseyside club capture six First Division titles, three FA Cups, three League Cups, and the 1984 European Cup.

So, if Grobbelaar, currently coaching in Newfoundland, Canada, believes that Jurgen Klopp is looking to replace Simon Mignolet, his words are worth a listen.

"I've had my criticism of Mignolet for two or three years, I even got pulled in and asked not to criticise him so openly," Grobelaar told talkSPORT. "I've said that he is a goalkeeper who is a great shot-stopper, but he is not the overall package. The overall package is good with your feet and coming out and commanding your area.

"I've got a goalkeeper in Canada, a 24-year-old, who does this better than Mignolet does and is just as good of a shot-stopper. He is more of a package than Mignolet is.

"I think he's looking at it (buying a replacement for Mignolet). There are a couple of goalkeepers in the German league that he is looking at so I can see that might be one of his first signings."

Almost one year ago to the day, Grobelaar compared Mignolet to Dracula, saying, "He doesn't command his area. I've likened Mignolet to worse than Dracula because at least Dracula comes out of his coffin now and then. He seems to stay on his line and that's it. That whole area, not just the six-yard area, is the goalkeeper's."

Mignolet joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2013 for a reported fee of £9 million.
