Signing Arsenal stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to new contracts isn't a priority at the moment, according to Arsene Wenger.

The pair had been rumoured to be in line for new deals to extend their stay at the Emirates Stadium, but the Arsenal gaffer doesn't feel it's imperative to lock up the team's most expensive players, considering the number of years remaining on their current deals.

"We have not started to talk about that with Mesut Ozil," Wenger told reporters ahead of Saturday's trip to the Midlands to take on West Bromwich Albion. "(Sanchez) is the same situation - at the end of the year they have two-and-a-half years' contract.

"We have some time. We are not in a hurry. We want of course for them to stay in the club, and we'll start negotiations at some stage, but at the moment we have not started."

Reports suggested Arsenal is in the process of negotiating a long-term deal in order to stave off interest from Manchester United, while the club is also eager to sign Ozil to a new contract before he enters the final two years of his current agreement.

The pair have been vital components to Arsenal's early season success and will surely be offered new contracts at some point in the not-so-distant future.

Ozil recently became the first Premier League player to record an assist in six consecutive games, bringing his league-leading total to 10. Meanwhile, Sanchez was able to overcome a slow start after a busy summer at the Copa America and now shares the lead with Olivier Giroud with six league goals.
