Aguero nears return from hamstring injury, eyes Liverpool match

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has been sidelined with a hamstring injury for the better part of two months, but the Argentine is hopeful for a return against Liverpool on Saturday.

Aguero had said as much earlier in November and, having been rested for Argentina's latest slate of World Cup qualifying matches, he's feeling close to full fitness - not good news for Liverpool, since Aguero scored five goals in his last match against Newcastle.

"I do hope I can play in this game. I’m doing everything in my power to get to the match in top condition," Aguero told reporters. "It’s been a frustrating time. Obviously the game against Newcastle (on Oct. 3) was special because it’s not every week you get to score five goals in one game."

Indeed, scoring five times in one match is a rare occurrence, though Aguero isn't the only player to do so this season. Still, he's only done it once before.

"I was playing in the pre-youth divisions for Independiente and it was the first important tournament that I’d participated in," Aguero revealed. "We played against a local team and won 7-0 and I scored five times but it doesn’t happen too often, does it?

"I managed to score four against Tottenham last season, which was the most I’d scored as a professional up to that point."

Should Aguero return this weekend, he'll have to face a Liverpool team in transformation, with a new manager at the helm in Jurgen Klopp.

"It should be a great game," Aguero said. "Jurgen Klopp has come in and he’s a great addition to the Premier League. I’ve stated before that it’s a good thing that the best players and managers come to England - it makes it one of the most competitive tournaments in the whole world."
