Daniel Sturridge 'fit and ready to go'

Daniel Sturridge's return appears imminent after the Liverpool striker claimed he's fully fit, saying he's excited to work with new manager Jurgen Klopp.

Although Liverpool's trip to the Etihad Stadium to play Manchester City on Saturday is likely too early for a return, Sturridge is excited about the prospect of suiting up again after missing over a month with his latest injury.

"I'm fit and ready to go and it's going to be a great time for me," Sturridge told Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph on Wednesday.

"It's been great under the new manager. I've been back training for the past couple of days and I was training when (Klopp) first arrived. It's an exciting time to be at the club and I'm enjoying working with him and the style of football. It's important for us to understand what he wants us to do."

Injuries and subsequent setbacks have limited Sturridge since the beginning of last season, with his latest knock occurring during a training session when a collision with Jordon Ibe resulted in an injured knee.

It was another disappointing blow for the English international, especially after Sturridge was forced to miss five months last season with injuries to his thigh, calf, and hip.

Sturridge is confident his return will coincide with Liverpool's push for silverware, saying a title contender has yet to emerge in the Premier League.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world in terms of competitiveness. There are teams up there this season you wouldn't have expected. It's up for grabs this season, there isn't a real favourite. It will come down to who can be the most consistent."
