Paul Lambert is making the move to Ewood Park.

On Sunday, Blackburn Rovers announced that Lambert has been appointed as the Lancashire club's new manager, making him the fifth permanent manager since Venky's, an Indian poultry giant, bought the team in 2010.

Lambert will be joined by ex-Blackburn player and youth team coach Alan Irvine as his assistant, while the club's former head of youth coaching Rob Kelly and goalkeeping coach Laurence Batty will also form part of his backroom team.

"I would like to thank the owners and board of directors for giving me the opportunity to manage such a fantastic club," Lambert said. "Blackburn Rovers is a club with superb support and fine traditions, being a founding member of both the Football League and the Premier League.

"After a short period out of the game, I feel refreshed and I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead. I bring with me a very trusted backroom team that I believe is equipped to help me create an exciting era for the club and I hope to deliver a brand of football that will both entertain the supporters and bring success."

The appointment marks Lambert's first job since he was sacked by Aston Villa in February. However, the Scottish manager is most respected for his time at Norwich City, which he guided to the Premier League in 2011 after two straight seasons of promotion.

Gary Bowyer was sacked as Blackburn's manager Tuesday, ending an 11-year association with the club that saw him restore stability after the team was relegated to the Championship in 2012 under Steve Kean.
