Mesut Ozil: 'My aim is to score more goals this season'

With nearly one-third of the Premier League season in the books, Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been one of the English top-flight's best players, something the German international attributes to staying late after training.

Now that he's cemented his place as one of Europe's best passers, the former Real Madrid midfielder has his mind set on scoring more goals.

“After training there are a few shooting drills that can help with self-belief," Ozil told Arsenal's website.

The 27-year-old has scored three times this season for Arsenal in all competitions, including a late tally in a dramatic Champions League victory over Bavarian giants Bayern Munich.

"In general, when you look at my chances in front of goal, I’ve taken them well."

Ozil has been nothing short of brilliant this year for the Gunners, with 10 assists through 11 matches for Arsenal - a Premier league record - quieting many of the critics who doubted his ability to acclimate to the rigors of the English game during his first two season at the Emirates.

"Every player wants to score goals," Ozil said. "I’m intending to score more this season than in previous years. It’s most important for us to perform well and to be successful - I’m looking forward to giving assists or scoring goals.

"My aim is to score more goals this season than in the last two. I think I’m on a good path and will achieve that."
