The Blackburn Rovers' board has dismissed manager Gary Bowyer with the club a disappointing 16th in the Championship table.

Assistant Terry McPhillips, first-team coaches Craig Short and Tony Grant, and goalkeeping coach John Keeley are also leaving BB2 with Bowyer.

The Mancunian ends an 11-year association with the Lancashire outfit after spells as youth coach, Under-21 gaffer, reserve team manager, and twice as caretaker boss before his appointment to oversee the first team in May 2013.

In his first season at Ewood Park, Bowyer guided the 1995 Premier League champions to eighth place, just two points short of the playoff places and a nine-place improvement on the club's previous term.

Last season saw a slight decline, however, with Rovers falling 11 points short of the playoff places.

The first 16 games of the current campaign have been a disappointment, with the club sitting precariously close to the relegation places as they struggled to remedy to summer sales of Rudy Gestede and Tom Cairney to Aston Villa and Fulham, respectively.

The Blackburn owners and board have vowed to "begin the search immediately to appoint a new manager," with Paul Lambert emerging as an early front-runner.
