Messi, Ronaldo, EPL players dominate kit sales

Reuters

English retailer Kitbag has released its sales numbers for soccer kits for the period between July 1 to September 30, and while the top two names on the list will come as no surprise, the names rounding out the top 10 may raise a few eyebrows.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo lay claim to the top two spots. What's curious, though, is Manchester United summer signings Memphis Depay and Bastian Schweinsteiger snatching the next two, with club legend Wayne Rooney landing in sixth.

Neither Memphis or World Cup winner Schweinsteiger have started their Premier League careers in great form, though that doesn't appear to be an impediment for those willing to shell out for their jerseys.

Pos. Name Club/Country
1. Lionel Messi Barcelona/Argentina
2. Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid/Portugal
3. Memphis Depay Manchester United/Netherlands
4. Bastian Schweinsteiger Manchester United/Germany
5. Eden Hazard Chelsea/Belgium
6. Wayne Rooney Manchester United/England
7. Neymar Barcelona/Brazil
8. Sergio Aguero Manchester City/Argentina
9. Alexis Sanchez Arsenal/Chile
10. Philippe Coutinho Liverpool/Brazil

Of the top-10 jersey sales, only the Premier League and La Liga are represented, with the two Manchester sides holding four spots on the list. Further, nine different nations are represented, with Argentina boasting two names in Messi and Manchester City goal-machine Sergio Aguero.
