Newcastle United shot-stopper Tim Krul will miss the rest of the Premier League season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee suffered during the Netherlands' 2-1 victory Saturday, the club confirmed Sunday.

Krul's injury hampers a bottom-dwelling side already languishing in the Premier League basement without a win in eight matches.

Steve McClaren's side now faces a dilemma between the posts: Second-choice 'keeper Karl Darlow is currently sidelined, and Rob Elliot has made only 16 appearance for the Magpies in all competitions since joining the Tyneside outfit in 2011.

The club has reportedly recalled youngster Freddie Woodman from League Two side Crawley Town to fill out the ranks.

Since moving to Newcastle from Dutch side ADO Den Haag in 2005, Krul has been a model of consistency for the Magpies, averaging just under 30 Premier League appearances over the last five seasons.
