Manchester City hamstrung by lengthy injury list

Not yet midway through another international break, Premier League title favourites Manchester City have suffered injuries to two of their most influential stars: Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

Aguero's injury is a massive worry for Manuel Pellegrini, as City are noticeably weaker when starting Ivorian striker Wilfried Bony up top in place of the pint-sized Argentine.

With the summer departures of Edin Dzeko to Roma and Stevan Jovetic to Inter Milan, Pellegrini doesn't have the same depth at striker, and may have to opt for youngster Kelechi Iheanacho in Aguero's absence.

To make matters worse for the Mancunian table-toppers, playmaking Spaniard Silva will be sidelined for an indeterminable spell with a sprained ankle picked up during a win over Luxembourg.

A glance at a list of City's walking wounded this season highlights a few things, not the least of which are the frequency of injuries to their marquee stars and the recurrence of knocks to the same players, namely Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure.
