Report: Liverpool 'confident' of completing Jurgen Klopp deal this week

Reuters

Amidst a week of conjecture concerning the managerial future of Jurgen Klopp, it would appear that the former Borussia Dortmund boss is poised to join Liverpool on a three-year deal by week's end.

It is anticipated that Klopp will travel to Liverpool within the next 48 hours to finalise contract negotiations, according to Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph.

Liverpool owner, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), contacted Klopp's representatives shortly after the dismissal of Brendan Rodgers on Sunday with hopes of having a new manager for the club's next match, a Premier League visit to Tottenham Oct. 17.

Negotiations led by Liverpool's chief executive Ian Ayre will continue throughout the week, with the main obstacle being Klopp's tolerance for working alongside the club's transfer committee for all future moves, according to The Guardian's Andy Hunter.

Despite Klopp's interest in having sole authority over transfers, FSG intends to maintain the same transfer committee that saw Rodgers responsible for several underwhelming signings.

It's understood that the 48-year-old Stuttgart-born gaffer will bring with him his former assistant Zeljko Buvac and coach Peter Krawietz, with plans to have the same comprehensive influence on the club that he had at Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp's current availability is thought to have played a role in FSG's decision to sack Rodgers following a 1-1 draw with Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday.

The pending move appears to be an ideal match for a Liverpool side desperate for a new identity and a return to form, as Klopp has been the club's first choice since 2010 as per a report by The Telegraph's Jonathan Liew.
