Manchester City's Toure, Kompany out vs. Newcastle as injury issues endure

As Vincent Kompany's calf problem shows no signs of clearing up, he's joined in the treatment room by Yaya Toure, who was substituted at half-time of Manchester City's midweek win at Monchengladbach with a recurring hamstring injury.

The pair, along with Gael Clichy, Fabian Delph, and Samir Nasri will miss Saturday's match against Newcastle United, manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed.

Despite Kompany being called up to Marc Wilmots' Belgium squad for Euro 2016 qualifiers against Andorra and Israeli, the Chilean boss was adamant his captain is unable to play in either game.

"Vincent cannot play. I can't ask him not to travel - if the national team ask him, he must go," he told reporters. "But he cannot play. He is an important player. He must be with his teammates. That was not a problem for him to go to the national squad.

"I hope that he can return after the international break. But I am not sure. I hope after 15 days he will be ready."

The match after the international break is another home game against Bournemouth, and Pellegrini hopes a new regime in the gym will alleviate Kompany's regular injury setbacks.

"It is a problem of the course that in the last years there are a lot of games he cannot play because of different muscle injuries," Pellegrini said. "In the way he works I hope in the future he will have less."

City has lost its last two Premier League games, and Newcastle should be full of confidence after its improved performance in last week's 2-2 draw against champion Chelsea.
