Manchester United 'keeper David De Gea poised to start against Liverpool

With the ink on a new four-year contract barely dry, and a distracting transfer situation temporarily abated, Manchester United star shot-stopper David De Gea is looking forward to making his debut.

And what better place than the "Theatre of Dreams," Old Trafford, where United hosts rival Liverpool Saturday in the late match between two sides sitting on seven points.

"It is a perfect moment to come back and at Old Trafford, with the fans (there) and against Liverpool in one of the biggest games in the world. I know the fans will love it if we win the game," De Gea told MUTV.

The lanky Spanish international hasn't played for the club since May, and with the melodrama of a protracted transfer saga in the rearview, De Gea appears fit to assume the role of United first-choice 'keeper.

"I train really hard and I played with my national team and of course I feel ready and 100 percent fit," De Gea said, understanding that this offseason was different than most. "It was a different summer, it is true. I keep my focus, I keep calm and I keep my hard work and I am happy now."

The last time Liverpool visited Old Trafford, in December 2014, De Gea was in fine form, with a slew of world-class saves during a 3-0 victory against Brendan Rodgers' side.

"It was a fantastic game, fantastic atmosphere and we won the game 3-0 at Old Trafford," he said. "It was a perfect day."
