Manchester United responds to Real Madrid's De Gea claims: 'Culpability is yours'

Manchester United has refused to accept Real Madrid's claims that its inexperience is the reason for the collapse of David De Gea's move to Spain.

Madrid president Florentino Perez placed the blame on United and chairman Ed Woodward for their inexperience and failure to file the necessary papers on time in order to complete the £29-million deal before the end of the transfer deadline in Spain.

While Madrid has been backed by the Spanish league, a United spokesman claims the Football Association will stand behind the team's claim that the necessary documents were submitted before the transfer window closed.

"The facts speak for themselves. The FA are prepared to back our case that documents were in on time," the United spokesman told Mark Ogden of The Telegraph.

"We all like to blame others but if you let one slip through your fingers into the back of the net, then ultimately the culpability is yours."

United's remarks are in response to Perez after he questioned the team's negotiating tactics, claiming that the club were hesitant to sell the 24-year-old.

It's the latest chapter in the ongoing feud between the two famous football teams. Similar transfer squabbles occurred with various players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Fabio Coentrao, and Gareth Bale.
