Reports emerged last week that Walters had rejected a contract offer at the club, and now John Percy, the Telegraph's football reporter for the Midlands, has claimed that the Republic of Ireland international has asked to leave the Potters.

Before his move to Stoke in 2010, Walters led a nomadic career, playing for nine different clubs before being signed by then-manager Tony Pulis.

"I've been here five years and improved every year," he told BBC Radio Stoke last week. "I can give you every stat for the past five years and I'm probably in the top two for everything."

Despite this, Walters was offered a new deal which made him feel undervalued.

His want to move away from the Britannia Stadium is thought to have alerted numerous clubs, including Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion.
