Tottenham 'keeper Hugo Lloris set to miss opening Premier League match

Recovering from a wrist injury that kept him out of all but 35 minutes of preseason activity, Tottenham skipper and first-choice 'keeper Hugo Lloris is set to miss the Premier League's opening fixture, Saturday's matchup against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The 28-year old French international fractured his wrist this summer during a vacation with his family, which coincided with the retirement of Brad Friedel, leaving Spurs with only one senior shot-stopper, ex-Swansea man Michel Vorm.

During the club's extensive preseason preparations and schedule of friendlies, Vorm and third-choice Luke McGee handled the duties, until Lloris made an appearance in Tottenham's last Premier League warm up, coming on in the 55th minute of the club's 2-0 win over AC Milan on Wednesday.

Speaking after the match, manager Mauricio Pochettino shared some thoughts concerning his star 'keeper's recovery:

“He played 35 minutes and it was fantastic to see.

“Maybe in the next weeks he will be OK. It was very positive today to assess him, but maybe he is not ready for 90 minutes. But it’s very important he is ready to come back," Pochettino said, courtesy of the Evening Standard.

Lloris, like fellow Spurs standouts Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen - when healthy - is instrumental to the success of the North London squad, especially if they have serious aspirations to challenge for a coveted top four spot.
