West Ham midfielder Enner Valencia will not require surgery
Good news, Hammers. Enner Valencia will not require an operation on his right knee and ankle.
Valencia suffered a scary injury during West Ham's Europa League qualifier against Astra Giurgiu last week, and was subsequently carted off on a stretcher after being administered oxygen as teammates looked on in fear.
Initial assessments were that the pacey attacker had suffered significant ligament damage to both his right knee and ankle.
The 25-year-old Ecuadorian forward took to Instagram to allay West Ham supporters' worries.
"I would like to thank everyone for the support and the affection shown on this difficult moment. Thanks God, today I received great news as I won't need surgery, all the best !"
Valenica will still be out indefinitely, though a recovery from surgery would have sidelined him until December.
With the extended injury lay-off of lanky English striker Andy Carroll, newly appointed Hammers boss Slaven Bilic may have to look elsewhere to strengthen his attacking core of Diafra Sakho, Mauro Zarate, and Mobido Maiga.
West Ham needs all the help they can get, with a Europa League return leg in Romania scheduled for Thursday followed by the club's first Premier League match Sunday against Arsenal at the Emirates.
