Vlad Chiriches completes move to Napoli from Tottenham
Tottenham announced Thursday that seldom-used central defender Vlad Chiriches has completed his move to Serie A outfit Napoli after spending two seasons at White Hart Lane.
In a statement posted on the club's website, Tottenham confirmed the sale of the Romanian defender, saying: "We wish Vlad every success for the future."
It's a somewhat surprising move, as Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri admitted he hadn't really seen much of Chiriches prior to chasing his signature.
"I only saw him play once six months ago and I know very little about him," Sarri told La Repubblica, according to ESPN. "But if he's been signed, it must mean he's got quality. I'll make up my own mind about him in the weeks to come."
"It's not a habit of mine to make specific transfer demands to my club," he added. "All I do is suggest the characteristics I need in a player."
Chiriches joined Tottenham in 2013 as one of seven players brought in from the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. He featured in 43 games over two seasons in all competitions, scoring two goals.
