West Brom manager Tony Pulis on Abou Diaby: 'We've made him an offer and we shall see'

Perpetually-injured defensive midfielder Abou Diaby may be heading to the Midlands, as West Brom manager Tony Pulis has offered the lanky Frenchman a second chance at Premier League glory after he had a medical on Friday.

"Diaby came in, he had his medical yesterday," Pulis told West Brom's official website. "We've made him an offer and we shall see. The big thing with Abou is getting him fit and having the confidence from the medical team to do that."

Diaby, 29, whose contract at Arsenal expired at season's end, has the potential to be a world-class anchor for a top club, but has had a career hampered by recurring injuries and misfortune. So much so it's become a joke to everyone but Diaby himself.

An unfortunate injury history notwithstanding, Pulis seems optimistic that he can get Diaby back to the form that convinced Arsene Wenger to sign him from Auxerre in 2006.

"He is a top player and I mean he is a top, top player. We've had a look and we think there are things he can do to improve his chances of playing 30 Premier League games and we're confident we can help him do that. Whether he accepts that and the ethos of the football club we'll wait and see."
