James Milner on replacing Gerrard: 'Even Messi would struggle to replace Stevie'
The great Lionel Messi is no match for Steven Gerrard and the impact the former Liverpool captain had on the Merseyside club, says new signing James Milner.
The midfielder is obviously attempting to impress those associated with the club when talking about one of Liverpool's most legendary player, but it's a safe bet that millions around would beg to differ after hearing his exaggerated comment.
"I don't think there's someone on the planet who could replace Gerrard for what he did for Liverpool football club over the years, so as a team we need to replace his output," Milner told an ABC News affiliate in Australian during Liverpool's summer trip.
"And I'm sure that can be done, but me personally, I'm a different player to him and I'll do my job and do what I do best.
"Even Messi would struggle to replace Stevie for what he's done for Liverpool over the years.
Milner should ask Gerrard's former teammate Luis Suarez about the matter following the Uruguayan's conversation with a young fan in the United States.
