Chelsea's Remy told he will not be sold

Manager Jose Mourinho stressed that Loic Remy will continue to be a valuable weapon next season during Chelsea's title defence.

In an effort to end speculation over a possible move away from Stamford Bridge, Mourinho said he spoke with the French striker about his place in the team. Remy reportedly became uncertain about his future when Chelsea agreed to a loan deal with striker Radamel Falcao.

His fears seem unfounded considering Falcao's disastrous first year in England, when he looked out of place with Manchester United. Nonetheless, Remy continues to sit behind Diego Costa in the pecking order as the team's preferred striker.

Remy was influential in his limited role, as Mourinho cited his contributions to Chelsea's first league crown since 2010.

“No chance," Mourinho told reporters when asked about the possibility of Remy leaving. "It is open competition between the three (strikers). That's our objective, that's why we want three strikers ready and important.

"Last season Remy was basically the third forward, but he scored so many important goals for us in crucial moments that gave us crucial points - the goal against Hull City, the goal against Stoke."

Like most players struggling to break into the first team, Remy is focused on improving and catching Mourinho's attention in order to make a bigger contribution to the upcoming campaign.

"I was happy with what I did last season but I think all the players want more. So I want to play more than last season and score more goals than last season," he said. "I will see what will happen in the future. But for me the focus is the same, I want to be better than the previous season."

After expressing his admiration for Falcao and the competition that will arise from his arrival, Remy acknowledged the interest he'd received from clubs around Europe.

"I am flattered that clubs were interested in me but I never wanted to leave this club because I feel really good. Yes, of course I want to play more but I'm sure I can play more here," Remy added.

Remy finished the 2014-15 campaign with seven goals during 21 league matches.
