Report: Manchester United to sell Jonny Evans to Everton for £8 million

Manchester United is in need of defensive reinforcements after a lavish summer of expenditure on high-priced attackers and midfielders. At centre-back, in particular, the Red Devils seem light. And they're about to get a tad lighter.

Jonny Evans is on the verge of an £8-million move to Everton, reports Jamie Jackson of the Guardian. The Irishman has made 198 appearances with the club, but looks to be on the outside of Louis van Gaal's inner circle of defenders.

Jackson explains:

Despite impressing Louis van Gaal on last summer’s tour of America the Northern Irishman fell out of favour in the Dutchman’s opening season in charge of United. Although the club want £10 million for Evans, Everton value him at £6 million as he has only a year left on his contract so the agreed price may be closer to £8 million. The 27-year-old has won three Premier League titles, the League Cup and FIFA World Club Cup since making his debut for United in 2007.

Evans made just 14 Premier League appearances last season (12 starts), being overtaken in the pecking order by Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Marcos Rojo.
