West Ham United announced Friday that 27-year-old centre-back Angelo Ogbonna completed an €11-million transfer from Juventus and put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

Ogbonna, who joined Juventus from its eternal rival Torino two years ago, made 25 Serie A appearances last season, averaging 3.3 clearances, 1.4 interceptions, and 1.2 tackles per game, while recording the team's best individual pass completion rate at 89.46 percent. Juventus lost just three of the 41 Serie A games in which he was deployed.

"I am delighted to have joined the Club," Ogbonna said. "I wanted to play in the Premier League and am happy to be in London. My heart told me that the right decision was to play for West Ham United. I cannot wait to start working under Mr. (Slaven) Bilic and with my new teammates. I feel ready for this new adventure."

While the transfer is likely aimed at improving West Ham's backline, it could also be a matter of co-chairman David Gold trying to redeem himself after accidentally tweeting a picture of Ogbonna while announcing his club's signing of Pedro Obiang in June.
